Lora Schwacke is a dedicated professional who has worked in a variety of fields through out her career. She began her career in the financial sector as a Certified Public Accountant and Auditor with experience working for both the private and public sectors. However, she retired from the field in 2004 in order to pursue a career as a substitute teacher for both middle and high school students. She has the pleasure of teaching a variety of subjects for the Waldwick Board of Education in New Jersey, and even has experience educating students with learning disabilities.
Lora Schwacke understands that as a substitute teacher, she is often in a tough position in terms of subject matter, student recognition, and the ability to command respect in the classroom. No matter how the students view a substitute, they are extremely necessary to education system as a whole because they keep the curriculum moving despite a full-time teacher’s absence.
In order to be a successful substitute teacher, you have to command the respect of your students as if you taught them on a daily basis. Students may view having a substitute as a reason to take it easy at school, but it is up to you to prepare them for the future; you can’t let them get in the way of that goal.
In addition to commanding respect, try your best to familiarize with students as much as you can. Studies show that students respond better in the classroom when the teacher recognizes their personality or behavior.
